SUMMARY:Animal Models for basic & clinical research – PROS and CONS and (legal) risks
DESCRIPTION:The next talk within the Lecture Series – Pitfalls and Solutions: ‘Good Experimental Design’ will be held on 14 December at 5pm. \n\n\n\nTopic: Animal Models for basic & clinical research – PROS and CONS and (legal) risks \n\n\n\nSpeaker:         Prof. Sebastian Arnold\, Institute of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology \n\n\n\nTime:              Wednesday\, 14 December 2022 at 5 pm \n\n\n\nVenue:            Seminar room ground floor\, Zentrum Translationale Zellforschung (ZTZ)\, Breisacher Str. 115 \n\n\n\nAbstract:         Animal models serve as fundamental tools in basic and clinical biomedical research. In this lecture we will discuss different model systems\, including a historical perspective\, and evaluate the benefits of different model systems for certain research purposes and questions. It will be highlighted how important the correct choice of different model systems is\, and how inappropriate choice of model system sets limitations within studies and also for the transfer of experimental findings. \n\n\n\nEspecially in recent years\, the legislation towards usage of animals for experiments has changed not only our thinking\, but lead to direct consequences on daily work with animal model systems. We will touch the current regulations and issues that result from still not entirely resolved legal questions. \n\n\n\nFinally\, especially in recent years considerable efforts were made to establish non-animal model systems for biomedical research. We will discuss examples of organoid and embryoid model system\, their limitations\, but also the immense advantages that they deliver. \n\n\n\nRegistration:   The lecture will take place as an on-site event. Participation is only possible with registration. Please register in advance for the lecture using the following link: \n\n\n\nhttps://www.med.uni-freiburg.de/de/forschung/Forschungsdekanat/Veranstaltungen-des-Forschungsdekanats/lecture-series-experimental/lecture-2022-registration \n\n\n\nThe current guidelines and Corona measures by the Medical Center – University of Freiburg will apply for this lecture. \n\n\n\nPlease find information on the current talk and the program of the Lecture Series attached. \n\n\n\nFor further details please refer to: https://www.med.uni-freiburg.de/de/forschung/Forschungsdekanat/Veranstaltungen-des-Forschungsdekanats/lecture-series-experimental \n\n\n\nPlease note also our courses of the EQUIP (Education and Qualification of Postdocs) program for Postdocs of the Faculty of Medicine: \n\n\n\nhttps://www.med.uni-freiburg.de/de/forschung/karrierewege/equip/kurse \n\n\n\nIf you are a Postdoc of the medical faculty and wish to stay informed about specific courses\, lectures\, events\, calls and other information relevant to postdocs subscribe to our postdoc mailing list.
