SUMMARY:Max Planck Seminar: Nurture your blood stem cells: a tale of zebrafish tails (Julien Bertrand)
DESCRIPTION:“We use the zebrafish as a model to study blood development. \nFertilization occurs externally\, producing large number of embryos that \ncan be easily manipulated. Importantly\, zebrafish blood cells\, as well \nas the molecular pathway necessary to their differentiation have been \nconserved with other vertebrates. \n\n\n\nThis allowed the generation of \nmany tools to directly follow the behavior of blood cells in the \ntransparent embryos. Thus\, we could show\, by combining several \napproaches\, that embryonic hematopoiesis occurs in four successive \nindependent waves\, culminating with HSC production from a particular \nsubset of endothelial cells: the hemogenic endothelium. \n\n\n\nWe will study how this particular hemogenic endothelium is specified from lateral plate mesoderm\, focusing on the hemangioblast\, to understand the contribution of this elusive precursor to the adult blood system\, and study the signals involved in the lineage-decision between the vascular and blood programs.” \n\n\n\nLocation: MPI-IE (Main Lecture Hall) \n\n\n\nHost: Eirini Trompouki \n\n\n\nhttps://www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/events/23518/4815845
